The pay-off, more or less. There's nothing better than returning home and finding out that your pet didn't miss you whatsoever.

When I was in the Chronicle office the following Sunday turning in the next week's strips, one of the sports guys noted that he hoped to never see Cami again. I obliged. (Though I did let him appear in the final strip.)
